What Is Agentic Chat? A Conversation Where the AI Does More Than Answer
Agentic chat is chat in which an AI agent takes part — reading the conversation, answering questions about it, drafting replies and acting for you, only as far as you allow. Here is what that looks like, and how it differs from a chatbot.
A chatbot answers. An agent in the chat works.
A chatbot is a conversation with a model. You ask, it answers, and nobody else is there. Agentic chat is a conversation with people, and the agent works inside it. Because it can see what was said, you never paste anything in:
What agentic chat looks like in Kanvo
Ask Kanvo about a message. Beside Copy on every message: what it means, what is still open, what to say back.Answers you can press. An agent's reply can carry cards and buttons — a choice, a confirmation, a follow-up question. Pressing one is an ordinary reply everyone in the thread can see.Agents as members. An app's…
The part that matters most: permission
An agent that can act in your conversations has to be one you can rein in. In Kanvo the default is draft and wait: nothing is sent until you send it. You can let the agent send on its own under rules you set, and every message it sends is recorded with what it was allowed to say and whether it said it was AI.
Where agentic chat stops
An agent can only work in what it can read. Kanvo's private conversations are end-to-end encrypted with MLS, so the agent, search and calls are off in them. That is the trade, stated plainly: ordinary conversations are where the agent helps; private ones are where nobody, including Kanvo, can read along.
Agentic chat, agentic messenger, AI-native messaging
These overlap. Agentic chat is the conversation; an agentic messenger is the app it happens in, across all of your messaging apps; and AI-native messaging is the design principle underneath — messaging built around the agent rather than given one.

Most crypto communities chat in apps that don't know what a wallet is. A web3 messenger should: wallet identity, token-gated rooms, payments and airdrops in the chat, real encryption and public proof. Here is the checklist, and Kanvo's answers.
Agentic Messenger vs Chatbot: Who Is the AI Working For?
A chatbot answers your customers from a script. An agentic messenger works for you, across every conversation you have, and answers as you. The difference decides what the AI may do, what it can see, and who is accountable when it gets something wrong.
